William
"Bill" T. Spaeder founded the Wm. T. Spaeder Co., Inc. in
1919. After serving in US Navy during WWI, Bill earned his master
plumber's license and set up business in his home. From the start
Bill's work focused on the plumbing and heating needs of commercial and
industrial organizations. His business grew slowly and steadily,
as did his family.
Bill's children
began to work for him in the 1940's. At one point nine of his
eleven children were active in the business. Bill died in
1963. At that time his son David J. Spaeder became president and
remained president until he retired in 1995. In 1995 David's son,
Terry M. Spaeder became president. Today ten of Bill's
grandchildren are involved in the business. These grandchildren
work in all levels of the company from direct job site supervision to
top management. The involvement of family members in all levels of
the company's operation ensures commitment and personal interest.
The Spaeder family
is hardworking, practical, and fiscally prudent. Its conservative
approach to finance has given the company a strong financial
position. The company's relationships with its customers, vendors,
bonding and insurance companies are excellent. Likewise, the
company enjoys the support of loyal, experienced, and industrious
employees.
Subsequent
generations have expanded on Bill's original focus of meeting the
mechanical needs of commercial and industrial customers. Seeing a
need and a good fit, they added automatic fire protection, process
piping, pipe fabrication, equipment setting and alignment, and pressure
vessel and boiler repairs to the list of services the company provides.
This year the
company will celebrate its 82nd year in business. It has
experienced good times and bad. Much about the company has changed
during these eighty-two years. But our mission to provide
excellent service and high quality work will always remain.
